I was responsible for the branding, strategy, design and development of a trilingual digital platform for migrants and asylum seekers in Europe from Somalia and Eritrea to share their stories.

Facilitated by UNHCR – the United Nations Refugee Agency, ‘Telling the Real Story’ highlights first-person accounts from individuals who have undertaken the dangerous journey through video testimonies in their own languages.

The initiative was remarkably successful with the videos being viewed hundreds of thousands of times. Soon after launch, the platform reached the top five most-visited websites in several African countries including Libya and Somalia.

I proposed and led brainstorming sessions with Somali and Eritrean ex-pat communities in Sweden to research how the risks of irregular migration are understood in the Horn of Africa region.

I then named, branded, designed and built and platform and created the social media focused outreach strategy targeting youtube and facebook.

I worked with the previously recruited European videographers to set formatting and submission guidelines, and then successfully proposed recruiting videographers from the communities who could then lead documentary filmmaking sessions for migrant populations across Europe, which were sponsored by UNHCR and the EU.
